Natural open space network
More than half of the Trailhead lands have been set aside for an adventure-friendly open space system, including 200+ acres of preserve lands that envelop the community. Managed by a conservation trust, the Trailhead Preserve includes an extensive network of multi-use trails that connect to the regional open space system.
The forest is the hero
Protecting, preserving and investing in the health of the forest landscape is at the heart of Trailhead’s determination to be a mountain settlement that honours and protects its natural environment.
Let the landscape dominate
Subordinate and responsive to the community’s natural state, Trailhead’s buildings, roads and trails are dwarfed by the forested landscape.
Forest patterns are the guiding light
The forest landscape and land forms have guided the placement of trails, roads and homesites so the built environment connects to and complements the mountain setting.
Interconnected trail system
Woven into the fabric of Trailhead is a network of trails to move around the community without using your car, to connect to the vast Elk Valley trail network, and to access the slopes at Fernie Alpine Resort.
